Barrels are made from Cooperage Aged Oak. The heads are cut out via a CNC Router then toasted to the desired level before being sanded to size, charred (if required) and then pressed into a 8L stainless steel canister to give a minimum usable volume of 6.5L.
Since the barrels are hand made you have a choice of::
French Oak
Toast Level (Light, Medium or Heavy)
Char Level (No Char, 1, 2, 3 or 4)
All barrels come with a flat pack stand made out of pine which can either be left raw or painted/stained before being assembled.
Why choose one of these barrels over a cheaper Chinese barrel for your spirits?
These barrels are made from oak sources from cooperages that has been weathered to remove and modify the wood tannins.
Since the barrels are made to order you can choose the type of wood as well as the toast & char levels unlike most other barrels.
Due to there only being the one side that is made from wood the barrels are less likely to leak.
The barrels have a lower surface area that the spirits are in contact with compared to a full wood mini barrel so there is less chance of over oaking the product.
The surface area is close to the area in a full size barrel so the spirit can spend longer in the barrel to help develop the unique flavours compared to using oak chips or dominoes.
The oak is about 25mm thick so if you wanted to recondition the barrel in the future you can by removing a layer of wood from the inside of the head & refinishing it.
Since these barrels are custom/hand made to order there may be up to 2 weeks lead time on the barrels. Due to them being hand made the volume can also vary from barrel to barrel.
